AFP is a kind of single-chain glycoprotein, which contains 4%carbohydrates. The average molecular weight of AFP is about 70kD, which is an embryo-related protein. AFP is produced by the liver and yolk sac of the fetus, the content of which is very low in other organs and close to adult levels at the age of 1. AFP as a tumor marker, has been widely used in primary liver cancer, reproductive system tumors and the differential diagnosis, efficacy and prognosis of other gastrointestinal tumors, but it can not be used as a basis for early diagnosis or diagnosis of malignancy. At the same time, AFP should not be used for the general population of cancer screening.
